One of the oldest wine houses in the Champagne region was founded in 1760 by Reims judge François Delamotte. His son, Nicholas-Louis, who was also a Knight of the Order of Malta, took Jean-Baptiste Lanson as a partner and started in 1798. to use the Maltese cross as Champagne Lanson's logo. 1837 the name was changed to "Lanson et Cie". Champagne Lanson has been the official champagne supplier of the British royal family (The Royal Warrant) for more than 120 years and the main partner of the Wimbledon tennis tournament for more than 45 years. There are 57ha of private vineyards around the city of Reims, and the separate 16ha Domaine de la Malmaison vineyard is certified by Demeter, which cultivates biodynamic agriculture. With a fine dense bubble stream, more intense than average golden yellow in color. The aroma is medium intensity and slightly herbal and fruity. Ripe fruits, dried apples, pears, ripe citrus and wet chalk along with cumin, nutmeg and dried citrus peel. The palate is dry, medium bodied and fruity lively with ripe citrus fruits and dried apples, tropical fruits, ripe light stone fruit with avocado and toasted almonds. The aftertaste is mineral and herbally fruity. The grapes come from the Vallée de la Marne, Lanson's personal 16ha Domaine de la Malmaison vineyard. The base wine is fermented in stainless steel barrels and is not malolactically fermented. The second fermentation with autolysis in the bottle on yeast vinegar lasts 4 years.
