The winery was founded in 1850 by Chilean landowner Christian Lanz in honor of his wife. Viña Carmen is officially the oldest winery in Chile and the “rediscoverer” of the Carmenére berry variety, as the berry variety was identified in the Maipo wine year of Viña Carmen. The color is pale yellow with a greenish undertone. The aroma is fresh and fruity lively, Feel ripe yellow fruits, apricots, yellow ripe apples and creamy spiciness. The end of the aroma is refreshed by an aromatic citrus acid note. The taste is medium-bodied and complexly fruity. Ripe tropical fruit, melon and citrus acidity with a light creamy spiciness. The aftertaste is creamy fruity with a balanced citrus acid finish. 30% of the wine is fermented in 2-3 year old French oak barrels, 70% of the wine is fermented in stainless steel barrels and develops in yeast for 8 months.
