The winery was founded in 1850 by Chilean landowner Christian Lanz in honor of his wife. Viña Carmen is officially the oldest winery in Chile and the “rediscoverer” of the Carmenére berry variety, as the berry variety was identified in the Maipo wine year of Viña Carmen. The color is pale yellow with a greenish undertone. The aroma is fresh and grassy. Feel blackcurrant leaves, tropical citrus fruits, lime and grapefruit, gooseberries, rhubarb and nettles. The finish is fresh and very aromatic, with citrus acid. The taste is light, fresh citrus with a light mineral note. Feel fresh citrus, black currant, passion fruit, rhubarb and fresh fruits. The aftertaste is grassy and herbal with a lively citrus acid finish. The wine is fermented in stainless steel barrels and is not aged in oak barrels
