Viña Cono Sur is a young and modern winery founded as a subsidiary of Chile's largest winery Concha y Toro in 1993 in the Colchagua Valley south of Santiago. The name Cono Sur translates as "cone of the south", to resemble the cone-like shape of the South American continent. The winery has over 1,800ha of vineyards in several different regions of Chile. Viña Cono Suri's motto: "No family trees, no dusty bottles, just quality wine". The color is ruby red of medium intensity The aroma has hints of ripe red berries, ripe cherries, strawberries, dark stone fruits and smokiness with a thin toasty note. The aroma is enriched by a light note of incense smoke together with roasted cocoa beans. The taste has an elegant berry character, you can feel overripe wild strawberries, pohli and ripe red cherries, the berry structure of the wine lasts in the aftertaste, which is complemented by a balanced spicy berry park. The grapes are grown according to the principles of organic farming in the estates of Santa Elisa, Campo Lindo and Quitralmàn and are picked by hand. The wine is fermented in stainless steel barrels, 50% of the wine develops for 10 months in large French oak barrels.
