Viña Cono Sur is a young and modern winery founded as a subsidiary of Chile's largest winery Concha y Toro in 1993 in the Colchagua Valley south of Santiago. The name Cono Sur translates as "cone of the south", to resemble the cone-like shape of the South American continent. The winery has over 1,800ha of vineyards in several different regions of Chile. Viña Cono Suri's motto: "No family trees, no dusty bottles, just quality wine". The color of the wine is lively, bright, ruby red The aroma shows overripe red wild berries, rose hips, raspberry jam, dark stone fruit and field berries and incense smoke with a thin toasty note. The aroma is enriched by a light animal tone with sweet spices. The taste has a berry character and medium body. You can feel overripe red sed wild berries, dried rowan berries and pohl and dark ripe cherries. In the aftertaste, the silky berryness of the wine lasts, which is complemented by a balanced spicy berry park. The grapes are hand-picked, the wine is fermented in stainless steel barrels, 80% of the wine develops for 10 months in medium-roasted French oak barrels.
