Intense ruby red in color, with a slight violet undertone The aroma is more intense than average, with the character of ripe red berries. Smell ripe dark stone fruits, cherries, red currants and blueberries. As the aroma develops, some cocoa and baker's spices are added. The taste is dry, medium intensity and berry lively, reflecting the aroma of the wine. There are overripe dark forest berries, dark stone fruits, grain pepper and a little baker's spice with rosemary. The aftertaste is medium length and berry lively. The grapes are hand-picked from Camino de Laguardia, San Martinn I and San Martin II plantations in the Torre de Oña estate in the Rioja Alavesa region. The wine is fermented in concrete vats, develops for 16 months in small oak barrels and ages in the bottle for 6 months. 60% of the barrels are new American oak barrels, 40% second-hand French oak barrels. La Rioja Alta is one of the oldest and most famous Rioja wineries, founded in 1890 by five berry growers of Basque origin who bought a wine cellar in the town of Haro from a French wine merchant. In 1995, the Torre de Oña estate was established in the Alavesa region of Rioja. Today, the 800ha plantations with the barrel factory are managed by the descendants of the founders, the group includes four estates: La Rioa Alta and Torre de Oña in Rioja, Bodegas Áster in Ribera de Dueros and Lagar de Fornelos in the Rías Baixas region.
