One of the largest wine houses in Rioja, founded in 1890 after the Phylloxera epidemic by a Frenchman from Bordeaux, Frederick Saurat Anglade, and his Spanish partners, hence the name - Bodegas Franco-Espańolas - "French-Spanish Wine House". Eguizábal has been owned by the family since 1983. Dark ruby red in color with a light violet undertone. The aroma is of medium intensity and with the character of overripe dark berries. Feel ripe dark forest berries, black currants and dark stone fruits, with coffee beans and some sweet spices. The taste is dry, medium-bodied and lively with berries, dominated by dark stone fruits and ripe black berries. The aftertaste is enhanced by a silky juicy berry park with a slightly bitter chocolate note and a slightly blushing spiciness. The wine is fermented in stainless steel barrels and develops for 14 months in medium-roasted American and French oak barrels, and then 6-10 months in the bottle.
