The Ruffino wine house was established in 1877 in the Tuscany region of Italy. Ruffino Orvietto wine is made in the DOC areas of Umbria from local berry varieties (60% Procanico and Grechetto, Verdello and Canaiolo Blanco 40%). The Umbria region includes the historic cities of Orvieto and Assisi in central Italy. The main variety of Orvieto and Orvieto Classico DOC is Trebbiano and is locally called Procanico (with smaller bunches of grapes and produces a better quality wine). The berries are picked from the Orvietto Classico DOC area in mid-August. Ruffino wine house was established in 1877. by brothers Ilario and Leopoldo Ruffino. In 1890, when Italy was a kingdom, the Duke of Aosta visited wine houses to select the official wine of the court. Arriving at the Ruffino winery, the Duke of Aosta was delighted with the Chianti wine of the Ruffino winery and a contract was signed and a certificate was issued, where Ruffino Chianti is officially the wine supplier of the Italian royal house. This historical moment is symbolized by the front label of Ruffino Chianti Classico Riserva Ducale DOCG, Ruffino Chianti Classico Gran Selezione DOCG wines. Ruffino winery produces fresh, summer wines from Tuscany, Maremma- Aqua di Venus Rose and Bianco wines; as well as Vino Nobile de Montepulciano, Ruffino Modus (Super-Tuscan). Only about 5-6 years ago, the winery discovered the ancient Ruffino winery recipes for making vermouth and amaro bitters from the archives. Today, Ruffino Antica Ricetta Vermouth and Amaro are represented on the menu of premium cocktail bars.
