The winery was founded in 1859 by Antonio Alves Càlemi, who started importing precious wood from Brazil, but so that the ships would not sail to Brazil empty, he started exporting wine there. In 1965, António Alves Calém Jr. continued his father's work and by then Càlem had grown into a shipowner with his own fleet. Since 1993, Sogevinus SGPS S.A. belongs to group with cellar stocks of over 8 million bottles. The winery has become known for its old Tawny-type port wines. Deep dark red in color. Overripe berry in aroma, you can feel overripe red berries, dark chocolate, dried black plums, cinnamon, cocoa and sweet spices. The taste is spicy berry and velvety liqueur, hints of chocolate and dried black berries, aftertaste with a long spicy full berry finish. The grapes grow in the upper reaches of the Douro River, in the Cima Corgo and Douro Superior growing areas. The fermentation of the wine is interrupted on 2 days by adding 77% grape distillate, the wine is developed and blended in Oporto, Villa Nova de Gaia, Calemi winery from wines with an average of 3 years of barrel development.
